Hawzah News Agency- The meeting took place at the Ayatollah Haeri Hall of the Seminary Management Center and was attended by Mehdi Taj, President of the Iranian Football Federation, along with members of the seminaries’ sports leadership council.
Discussions centered on ways to strengthen cultural interaction between football as the country’s most popular sport and the religious institutions that play a key role in shaping Iran’s social and moral framework. Participants highlighted the broad cultural, social, and educational capacities of sport—particularly football—and stressed the need for structured and sustained cooperation between the two sectors.
Seminary representatives described football as one of the most influential cultural platforms in Iranian society, emphasizing its potential to promote ethical conduct, spirituality, chivalry, and Islamic values among athletes and supporters alike. They called for targeted and purposeful use of this capacity to help elevate moral standards in sports arenas.
Strengthening cultural ties between players, fans, and religious institutions was identified as a key priority, with participants underscoring the importance of joint programs aimed at reinforcing positive social behavior in stadiums and sporting events.
Another major topic was the role of seminary students as a social and cultural asset. Attendees highlighted the potential impact of an active and organized presence of students in stadium stands, noting that their participation could contribute to a more respectful, ethical, and spiritually oriented atmosphere during competitions. They stressed the need for coherent planning to harness this capacity effectively.
For his part, Mehdi Taj welcomed closer engagement between the Football Federation and the seminaries, reaffirming the federation’s readiness to expand cultural, educational, and social cooperation. He described the role of seminaries in providing cultural guidance to the country’s sports sector as both important and constructive.
The meeting concluded with a call for the continuation of such consultations, the development of practical and operational plans, and the optimal use of shared capacities between the seminaries and the Football Federation to help enhance the cultural standing of sports in Iran.
